Building Systems, Sem IV

The 5 week long module focused on looking deeply on how systems(air, light and water) can be incorporated in a builtform and understand how it goes hand in hand with these three.

We had JVPD, Juhu in Vile Parle(W) as our site for study. We identified the co-relations between humans and the surroundings. We started our thinking with identifying a resource which is very vital for solving the minute problems on the site. How can this resource be incorporated in our design so that it facilitates the problems which the people nearby face on daily basis.

We identified nallah's water as our resource and sunlight as our system and how both of them can work together to create a design. How these two can form a system so that it works for the given site conditions.

We designed a terrain which holds waterbody in it with water of the nallah treated by filtration tanks and solar roofs which shade spaces below, which also provide energy to the long lane of shops on the road nearby.

The water from the nallah gets filtered by a water processing unit and is then flushed in the undulations created by the terrain around which are provided seating spaces and dining area.

Detailed analysis about the project about its program, system networks, conceptual models and sketched can be seen here.
