Walking Mumbai

Electives, Sem IV

The 5 day log electives majorly focused on understanding how walks are curated and what all it takes to plan a city walk. From understanding route and landscape to even deciding on halt points, we learnt how to think before planning such a thing. How does one plan such city walks, what logistics need to be thought of, how does the route affect one and many more such things that go behind the curation of such walks.

We planned our walk in Dahisar to Eksar village in Borivali vicinity. We started from visiting the Mandapeshwar Caves in Dahisar to seeing the L.I.C Colony planned by Charles Correa to Koli settlement in Eksar village.

We started the walk from a heritage site which dates back from 6th to 8th century. Walking ahead we passed by the LIC Colony design by Charles Correa, how thoughfully the row houses have been planned in context to the surrounding. We ended the walk in Koli settlement in Eksar wherein we saw how an area gets shaped in terms of shops, practices and livelihood according to the people living nearby.
