Environmental Flows, Sem III

With the site being the long promenade of Daman, we did an intensive site study of three days to understand how ecology and builtform work together. How important are trees and environment for shaping and imagining a space altogether?

How do senorial experience of flows help understand thermal, visual, hearing and smell which also adds to the shape the spatiality and its experience. We carefully looked at air temperature, surface temperature, humidity, wind velocity, clothing insulation, metabolic rate, sound, smell and vegetation.

Once the database of site study was done, we then started looking at individual sites and questioning the specific problems over there. Why and how did they emerge, what factors have lead to formation of such a space and how do we now tackle it.

We had an intend of; Convincing a building as a dialogue between ‘built and unbuilt' that envisages the past, present and the future which responds to all seasonal changes accordingly through exploring the idea of temporality and modularity.

For the designed space, we aimed at keeping the program as an Observatory Garden which lets one experience the vegetation, rethinking of the ruin in Daman fort and an infrastructure which helps the ecology to grow over it.

I did the study with my partner from then IIIrd year, Swara Chaudhary.

Furthermore enquiries and drawings can be seen here.
